I have no idea if my clean install on another hardrive did the trick or if the update just fixed it, but it works now flawlessly. Now, the majority of the crashes are caused by an error mss32.dll, shogun2.dll. My latest try coincided with a small Update for Shogun 2 and another Windows update. The reason I bought my alienware was soley to play the Total war games.
I made a clean reinstall, deleted all files in appdata and steamfolder and instead of installing the game on my SSD, I installed it on my HD. I have managed to get Shogun 2 working again.
